Dark beams, a white sofa and one black slab on a marbled rug. Photographed in our own house — seven pieces, every one of them sourced.
Every number on the photo is a piece you can buy. Tap one.

The long low cream sofa. Loose back cushions, a single deep seat line, arms cut flush with the frame — it is the quiet object in a room where the ceiling is doing all the talking.

Both barrel chairs. Boucle over a curved shell on a swivel base, so the one with its back to the room still turns to face you. There are two here and they should always be bought in pairs.

One ebony slab with a soft oval edge on three fat cylinders. This is the only dark mass at floor level and it is what ties the ceiling beams down into the room.

Marbled grey, blush and petrol, poured rather than woven into a pattern. It carries the only real colour in the room, which is why everything sitting on it can stay cream and black.

Tall, thin-trunked, open in the canopy. Two of them flank the sofa. Under a vaulted ceiling you need height at the edges or the walls look short.

A wide cityscape for the wall above the sofa. The one in the photograph is a night skyline the owner already had; this is the same subject and the same long format, painted paler.

A raw teak trough planted low and wide — the same footprint as the arrangement in the photo, in succulents rather than cut tropicals, so it never has to be replaced.
